Lawrence Reid uses his art to explore the psychology of the Shadow Archetype. Beginning in 2016 with graphite drawings, Reid has since expanded his portfolio with ink-wash paintings, puppet-based performance art and masks sculpted from found materials.

Initially inspired by the horror genre, Reid has nurtured this fascination since early childhood. As an adult, however, he realizes that the miscreancy often associated with gruesome monsters parallels an unspoken truth shrouded by the veneers of societal obligations. Through his art, Reid seeks to harmonize this peculiar nature within himself – to create emotional resolution and embrace his whole identity.

A recent M.F.A. graduate of East Tennessee State University, Reid has been recognized with an Outstanding Graduate Student Award and has displayed his work in shows such as: Laugh Until You Scream: Comedy and Horror Films of East Tennessee (2019), Art Nova’s October Creep Show Virtual Exhibit (Mississauga, Canada, 2020), The Fourth and Fifth Annual Art of Darkness (HeARTspot Gallery, Providence, RI, 2020 /2021), and Spirits, Spirituality, the Supernatural and Steampunk (University of Rhode Island Campus Gallery, Providence, RI).
